safe and sound protocol

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) calms your physiology and emotions to foster communication and resilience. It is ideal for clients with auditory sensitivities, attention difficulties, anxiety, trauma and social difficulties. Over the course of five days, you use headphones to listen to assigned tracks of music. The music is specifically designed for autonomic system regulation, with the goal being to increase focus and to calm physiology and emotions. There are many other factors that your therapist will assess to be sure that the SSP is right for you.

The geeky stuff (if you’re interested):

The SSP is based on the Polyvagal Theory, and uses specific musical tracks to regulate the nervous system. The auditory system provides access to something called the vagus complex. The vagus complex is what controls our physiology and the music challenges it to improve functioning in the Cranial Nerve VII and the Cranial Nerve X. The Cranial Nerve VII is also called the Facial Nerve and it helps clients learn to filter out irrelevant frequencies and focus on human voices. The Cranial Nerve X, or Vagus Nerve, aids in autonomic regulation and the ability to soothe oneself.

Safe and Sound protocol works best with…
